The photo album is in PDF format and Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 5 or newer is required (Acrobat Reader is a free download from Adobe). The CD will run on operating systems as old as Windows 95, but will not read on earlier versions of Acrobat Reader.

A Truck Photographer’s Diary, Vol. 8–Keep On Truckin’-East & South, is a photo album on Compact Disc featuring truck photos that is intended to provide historic photographic documentation of trucks from a bygone era, the Fifties and Sixties.

The photo album contains a potpourri of images; most are company promotional and advertising photos, and a few were taken by the author, David A. Bontrager. All are in 8” x 10” format and view full screen with a border. The actual size of the photo is dictated by the quality of the original image, so some of the photos are smaller, but large enough to view well on screen. The photos are of carriers from the East and South of the United States. Most are black and white, and some are color. A wide variety of types of trucks is represented in 175 photos, including regulated carriers, owner-operators, and private fleets. Also included are some restored vintage magazine advertisements.

Trucking was much different in the Fifties and Sixties than it is today. Not only was the industry different during the regulation era, but the equipment, technology, and even the people were different. The documentation contained herein focuses on the equipment.

The photographs capture the trucks in their working environment. Most of the photos have been restored and are in better condition than the original image.

Most of the images are in pristine condition; some are less than perfect, but I feel the historic value of the trucks shown or the era out weighs the technical aspects of the photo.
