TPD-9

A Truck Photographer’s Diary, Vol. 9–Keep On Truckin’ - Upper Midwest, is intended to provide historic photographic documentation of trucks from a bygone era, the 1940s thru the early 1980s.

The photo album is comprised of 315 photos featuring company promotional and advertising photos, photos taken by the author, David A. Bontrager, and some reproductions of interesting advertisements. The album features a variety of carriers from the Upper Midwest of the United States. Also included are several mini photo essays; the early years of my dad’s trucks, Bontrager Truck Service, when I was leased to Michigan & Nebraska Transit, a large photo essay of when I worked at Double Eagle Industries in the late-seventies, and when I drove for Kopf Trucking.

The Double Eagle section features 114 photos showing a variety of trucks with Double Eagle sleepers. This is just a small sampling of the photos I took while at Double Eagle, I left most there when I quit.

Many of the photos in this CD album were taken by author David A. Bontrager, who is well-known for his classic and unique images of trucks and trains from the 1950s through the present day. This is an excellent sampling of his private collection of truck photos.

Most of the images are in pristine condition and will few excellent on screen. A few may be less than perfect, but I feel the historic value of the trucks shown out weighs the technical aspects of the photo.
